I am Darcy Ridge, previously known as Daxi Ridge. I am most known for my short stories, poems, and screenplays, but I am so much more than those three terms. I enjoy long walks on the beach, watching the sun rise or set through the trees, hiking through dense forests in the Fall, and learning about other people.
I can be found in the United States, but I was adopted from China at fourteen months old. I am genderfluid and my pronouns are they/them.
Activities I can be found doing are learning Mandarin and Spanish or obsessing over a website called 16personalities. I am an INFJ-T, but I like to consider myself as a little bit of all the personality types and more.
What do I write?
I write novellas, short stories, poetry, and short screenplays. My favorite topics to explore are identity and family. As a Chinese adoptee myself, those two subjects intertwine and dance around me. I love delving into what makes a family tick and how a person develops their individuality.
Most of my stories take place in Buchtton, which is a fictional Massachusetts town that I created.
Where do I post my writing?
My writing can be found on Wattpad, on Tumblr/Cohost, and on this website. On Wattpad, you can find my shorter pieces in one of my three collections. On my website, underneath "My Writing," you will find my stories. Due to storage management, I can only have a limited amount of writing on my website at a given time. You always will be able to read my stories on Wattpad.
My novellas will only be published on Wattpad.
When do I post my writing?
I post my stories sporadically throughout the year. You can follow me on Tumblr/Cohost to find out when I have a new story available.
Most of my stories are written months before I am able to post them. An example of how this happens is when I wrote multiple stories about COVID-19 in April and March of 2020, but they were not published until September and October of the same year.
Why do I write?
I write to process my own feelings and to feel hopeful. I struggle with mental illness and writing is an outlet for me to explore characters that experience similar hurdles. In writing, the fact that I can make a happy ending is so powerful to me. Even though terrible things may happen in my story, hope still thrives.
Furthermore, I write to comfort others. I know I am not the only person who feels defeated or hopeless and I want others to understand they are not alone, too. Stories are a way I can indirectly let readers know that I am there for them.
How do I come up with stories?
I often randomly pick an image and use that as a starting point for my story. From there, I let my own experiences and knowledge guide me in crafting my tale.
