I spent a while wondering this question myself. Most authors would agree, one year to write and edit a single book.
I myself agree and disagree with this statement. A lot of barriers can come in the way of finishing a book; school, sports, other hobbies, and family events. You might not be able to complete your goal every month. This can make it harder to finish writing a whole book in one year. On the other hand, if you're able to write on the go, you can more easily finish the story. It would still take a lot of effort, but you may be closer to those who need to sit down for long periods of time. I'm not trying to claim one way is better than the other, but simply explain likely possibilities. The advantage of having to sit down is being able to get a large piece of work all in one period. You might be able to achieve your weekly goal in just one sitting. So in all, there's really no clear answer and you should't pressure yourself to find one.
