In my story "Gears", a girl's heart is pushed by a snake. The girl, Gabriella, is coming in terms with the fact she is moving to Buchtton. I see the story as one about emotions. We all struggle with them and we can't always be happy. Sometimes it's better to be another feeling. Happiness can't really be forced either. That's what the snake was trying to do, make Gabriella happy. I wanted a snake to be the gear turner because often times snakes are seen as evil creatures of the deep. While snakes can be dangerous, there are ways be safe around them. I also thought it would be interesting to have a character that hadn't even met Gabriella, try so hard to make her happy. Gabriella doesn't even realize the efforts of the snake. In the end, it's Gabriella opening up to her mother that gets her heart working again. The snake sees the gears turning again and is happy. He isn't upset that he wasn't the one that made Gabriella's heart working. Instead, he's genuinely pleased. In this way, this is when we truly see that the snake has Gabriella's best interests at heart, by his selfless happiness. Thanks for reading. What are your thoughts on "Gears"?
